Trekking the Dolomites Alta Via 1 Over 50:
A First-Hand Guide to Trails, Refugios, and Being Prepared
Live Masterclass & Interactive Q&A
Thursday, July 30 | 10:00 AM Pacific | Free | 1 Hour | On Zoom
Can your knees handle the steep descents? What are the mountain huts actually like for solo female travelers? How do you train for an alpine crossing?
Join us for an exclusive, insider look at one of the world’s most iconic alpine routes. Avid trekker Monika Becker will take us on a vivid, visual journey through her spectacular six-day trek of the classic Alta Via 1 in the Italian Dolomites.
We will explore the ancient landscapes of the Fanes Plateau, trace high-alpine crossings past the majestic Marmolada, (“Queen of the Dolomites”) and walk historic trails marked by remnants of the First World War.
But this session goes far beyond standard travel photography. This is a practical case study designed to show you exactly how a mature adventurer plans, packs, and successfully completes a 2,752-metre bucket-list trek safely and comfortably.
Whether the Dolomites are on your bucket list or you simply love the beauty of far-away mountains, this is an hour you won’t want to miss.
What To Expect:
** A visual Overview of the Trail: A photo journey showcasing the real terrain, exposure levels, and incredible scenery of the Alta Via 1 so you can visualize the route.
** The Reality of Mountain Huts: An honest, first-hand look at the refugio experience – including room layouts, food, and what to expect regarding comfort and logistics.
** Live interview on Training & Gear: Host Georgee Low interviews Monika on how she physically prepared for the elevation, her daily pacing strategy, and the exact gear she relied on.
** Open Audience Q&A: An open-floor session where you can ask Monika your specific questions about trail safety, preparation, tekking anxieties, or anything else about the experience you are curious about.
About your guide:
Monika Becker has been a nature and mountain lover since her childhood. Starting with family walks on the weekends in her home country, Germany, she continued to develop her love for mountains and was an avid rock climber in her 30s.
Eventually, she realized two long-held dreams by completing a trek to Kala Patthar, Nepal (5,545 m) in 2017 and the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites (approx 3,000 m) in Italy in 2024.
As Monika says, she still has many more forests to explore and mountains to climb. 😊
